(1) Hubber producing plante are found in tropical or equatorial areas of the world. For optimum growth and yield, temperatures with a mean minimum of approximately 75°F are required. The mean maximum should not exceed approximately 95°F as higher temperatures, unless accompanied by high humidity, cause, tooi rapid drying out with resultant ceasation of latex flow. For optimum yield, annual rainfalli should exceed 70 inches and be evenly
distributed throughout the year. A long dry • period inhibit growth, and excessively wet seasons interfere with harvesting of the crop.j;
Although rubber trees will grow under almost any soil conditions, providing the olimate is favourable, soil conditions. definitely affect optimum growth and yield," Soile rich in nitrogen are preferable, although
the other major elements, phosphorus and potassium, must also be available. Desp alluvial soils are preferable, although relatively shallow soils, if properly treated with artificial fertilizers and planted with nitrogen-fixing cover plants, will support good growth and yield. Good drainage in absolutely necessary, as rubber will not. grow with "wat fee".
An adequate supply of labour is essentia for the daily collecting of latex and its preparation. The setting up of large plantations from which we derive more than 95% of the world's natural rubber supply requires great capital investment, a high level of organisational skill, and 3 advanced level of technology

40 inches or its equivalent in irrigation is necessary so that the paddy can be flooded during the early period of growth.
o) Soil:- Rice needs a permeable rich alluvia' soil and an impermeable layer beneath ea that water may not drain away so readily.

(iii) Rubber latex is obtained by tapping. Narrow lits are out in the back of the tree early in the morning and aluminium cups are placed below the incisions. Latex keeps on flowing out from the trues for about half an hour
bafore the outs become sealed up by naturs. The contents of the cups are collected later in the day by nativa workers and emptied into tanks in the plantation factory. Foruic acid is added to make the latex, coagulate. Hator is excluded by compressica and sheets of rubber- are formed by rolling and drying or smoking. The sheets are then packed into dales and trane ported by lorry to the port, where it 19 pumped and piped on board chip and aportad to other countries.
(iv) 95% of the world's supply of natural rubber
comes from plantations in South-East Asia.
Malaysia and Indonesia ero the most importanı producers, followed by Cambodia, South. Vietnam, Thailand, Caylon and India. On the other hand, U.S.A. is the biggest consumer and importer, Japan, Great Britain and Wost Germany are the other important importera. Tho world rubber market is' subject to periodio fluctuations. As the dezand is rising and the production iù proceeding at an even more rapid rate, there is always the danger of over production. Further move, nateral rubber has to face competition from synthetic rubber, the production of which has in recent decades over-takes that 'a' aztuzul rubber. It remains

\(iv) The world trade of this commodity is almost
confined to South-East iwin which produce8 more than 80% of the world's rice. Some of the producers like India, Pakistan, China, Japan and recently South Viet-name have to import rice from other producers because of thair enormous home consumptions, Thailand- Burna, Cambodia, and recently with the intoduction of "miracle zice”, the Phillippines are important exporters, In recent years, rice from the North Anexioar countries (U.S.1.)and Mexico mainly) also enter the South-East Asian market.
