(a) The structure of a sweat pea flowerte

Many flowers do have common characteristic parta:- sepals, petals, androecium and gynoecium.

The calyx or wee v pea LLUNOLAN nade up of five sepals which have pointed. tips and are joined together at the base.

The corolla of the flower includes 11v6 petals. Two of the anterior petals are fused so there are only four free parts of a corolla. They are named, the standard, a pair of smaller lateral petals, the wings, and the keel (fused anterior petals)...

The androecium or this flower consists of ten stamens enclosed in the keel. The lower parts of the filaments of nine of the stamens are joined together for two-thirds of their length so as to form a tube which has a narrow slit along the top. A single free stamen fills up the slit. The other free enas. of the stamens bend upwards at right angles to the keel.

The gynoecium of sweet pea Lower Inoludes a single carpal with marginal placentation, The carpel has three parts, the stigma, style and the ovary. The ovary bearB a style which is bent in a similar way to the stamens and has a terminal hairy and brush- like stigma.

flower during the bud stage. They wither gradually after fertilization of the flower.
