When light passes from one: medium to

more optically dense medium there will always be both reflection and refraction for al1

angles of incident. But this is not always the case when light passes from a more optically. dense medium to a lese optically dense medium. If the angle of incidence increase to a certain angle, the angle of refraction will becomes maximum, 90 degrees. This angle of incedence " is known as the critical angle. In this case, a comparatively weak reflected ray obtained internally in the denser medium and strong refracted ray lies just on the surface discrimination.
