鱗莖洋蔥

直根系;凡植物之初生根會漸漸增長,其直接煙文支根音此類根系嵇之

例如象心龜魚橡樹,蒲公英等會比類根系,直根系之初生根亦稱主根 後根系:凡韧生根在植物根幼小的時候已停止生長或死去,從植物近泥土之 曼即長出很多不定根追顯不足根彼此粗细相若,又根前後端上口经亦差不多。

麺根象精之例如水稻、李蜀黍棕櫚等屬此類根系

Thus to uphold the well-known doctrine that prevention: is better than cure we have a Goverriment department in Hong Kong whose work and functions are related to thin popular belief. This department is known as the Urban Services Department.

(Statistically speaking, the urban pervices Department is responsible for maintaining cleanliness) over an area of forty square miles inhabited by overr 3,000,000 people. About 6,000 scavengers are employed to carry out this function. Another 6,000 employees o the department are engaged in other aspects of work undertaken by the department,

bath houses and carry out such supervision as required. in maintaining cleanliness at all times in such places.

Markets, abattoirs and bawkers also come under the supervision of the U.3.D. There are two abattoirs cone at Me Tau Kok and one at Kennedy Town, and these

are strictly kept in hygienic, conditions to prevent spread of disease. There are roughly about 60,000 hawkers in the urban areas and these have to be supervised lest they would cause obstruction to traffic or spread or disease through their careless handling of refuseit. The Hawker Control Force with a strength of 400 1s responsible for this job. It goes without saying that market-places are the places. that encourage the spread of mosquitoes and flies, Thus U.S.D, employees are responsible in seeing that these places are kept clean and that flies and other pests are not allowed to bread.

Children's playgrounds, rest gardens, parks, "beaches and swimmdng: pools are also places where

refuse may be found and thus may cause unnecessary nuisance to public health. These are also supervised. by the Us.D.

About 400 health inspectors, mostly trained locally with an exceptional few who have been sent to England for advanced training, are employed in U.S.D. to.maintain standards of hygiene in fad premises (such as factories, bakeries restaurants and sweet shops). Food samples from such places may be tested For contamination of germs or poison and those who fail to ksep their foodstuffs aafe, clean and fresh are: prosecuted. Health Inspectors also visit nouses and near complaints.

areas is also done in the New Territories through a special division which receives instructions direct, from the Urban Services Department Headquarters on Hong Kong Island.

The Urban Dervices Department comes under the supreme direction of the Urban Council, which, through its 15.select. Committees (each between six and twelve nenberg), plans policies for the U.3.0.
