CHEMISTRY (9)

Chlorine may be obtained in the laboratory by hesting a mixture of manganese dioxids and concentrated hydrochloric acid,

1002 4HO MnCl2 C127

2120

The gas so obtained will contain seid vapour and water vapour as an impurity. To obtain chlorine free from these impurities, the gas is passed. through water to get rid of the acid vapour (hydrogen chloride) and then through concentrated sulphuric acid to dry the gas. The pure, dry gas is then collected in gas jars by downward delivery.

Bleaching action of sulphur dioxide (removes oxygen from the coloured substance to form a colourless compound)

The bleaching action of sulphur dioxide is not permanent as in the case of chlorine, for the Oxygen of the air is liable to oxidise the substance back to its original colour. In each case the gas bleaches in the presence of water.

His nurse said, "Good morning, Miss Robinson, Will you please wait in the waiting-room?" I went in and sat down. There are always a lot of magazines there, so I took one and began reading an interesting story. After a few minutes, the nurse came in and said, "Kr. Williams will see you now, Miss Robinson. "I will finish this story next times," I thought, because I usually come back twice or three times,

The dentist is always very kind. He tries not to hurt me, but sometimes he does, and then he says, "It will soon be finished, Miss Robinson. Be patient, and gives me a pleasant smile..
