coming out or the vill unite and form the HEPATIC PORTAL VEIN. This runs forward and enters the liver where it branches off into capillaries. The sugara diffuse out and are stored in the liver as the insoluble animal sugart of GLYGOGEN.

The FATTY ACIDS, GLYCEROL and FAT GLOBULES (emu IS io) pass across the thin wall of the villus and enter the lacteal and thus into the lymphatic system. The lymphatic duct runs forward, joins the anterior vena cava and dischanges its conte: ts Into the blood which enters the right auricle. Thes the fat is also thrown into the blood stream. Actually the hydrolysed fats are re-synthesised into fat in the cells of the epithelium of the villi and then pass into the lacteals.

ASSIMILATION OF THE ABSORBED DIGESTED FOOD: This is the process in which the absorbed food is made part and parcel of the body. It is used in the formation of new cells, repair of worn-out or broken tissue and for the liberation of heat and energy by oxidation.

GLUCOSE: The glucose content of the blood la kept constant by a regulated release from the diver. This is known as "Blood Sugar", The excess is stored in the liver as well as muscle tissue. A little is used in conjunction with the proteins to form 'gluco-protein' which constitutes the foundation material for bones and cartilage. Most of it is used in the liberation of energy and beat.

AMINO ACIDS; These are re-converted into proteins and added on to the body and the growth takes place as seen in the young animals. In adults it just balances the repair of the worn out or broken tissue. It also supplies the required parts for the formation of hormones and other secretions sjimportant for life. In adults it may also be

sed for oxidation to liberate energy. Excess of Amino-acids are dé-aminated in the liver i.e. the amino group is removed and the rest of the molecule rearranged to form fatty acids or glucose which may be oxidised to liberate energy- cor stored in the liver as glycogen, The amonia

being, toxic is changed to urea (CONH)rith CO2 and thrown out of the body as urine..

FAT It is stored under the skin as adipose tissue or fatty layer. Each cell contains a large Wacude joe containing a drop of fat. Fat is also stored.

organs of the body. It acts as a reserve of energy in. case glycogen supply is exhausted as in prolonged activity or starvation. Some of it is used in the construction of cell- wmembranes. When needed the fat is first hydro=

lysed to glycerol and fatty acids which are then oxidised in stages to supply energy •

The LEUN with the help of VILLJ The inner walls of the ileum are thrown into i:numerable folds forming finger-like processes which perform wave like motors as the CHIYLE is passing through the intesine The walls of the villi are richly suppld ed with blood-cafilames The Lymphatic duct gives off branches and chorus up the centre of each villus and are called LACTEALS,

Fat is stored in hibernating animals before they undergo hibernation and since activity is reduc ed to minimum during hibernation only little energy is required to keep the heart muscle and some other vital organs working. Camels also. store fat in humps.
