In the past sixteen years the commercial activities of Hong Kong has to some extent, shifted to the development of light industries, Hong Kong has now established as an industrial territory with an economy based on exporta rather than on domestic:market.

Hong Kong has virtually no natural resources, and its Industrial development on a significant scale. did not cake. place until : political changes in China, followed by the Korean War and consequent trade restriction.

Hong Kong's industrial economy derives therefore from various factors. The arrival of refugees from the mainland brought in additional manpower and in some cases technical .. knowledge and captital. The real asset for this development ta that Hong Kong has a atable Government and enjoys: political stability. Wide spread skill in merchandising techniques inherited from its traditional entrepot trade, plus highly developed banking, Insurance and shipping system. have encouraged large scale enterprise, Hong Kong is a free port, therefore raw materials can be obtained without tariff or restrictions from any part of the globe. Besides, the government has the minimum interfence in trade and industry.
