PROVISIONAL URBAN COUNCIL

Committee if hawker provisions will be comprehensively reviewed at once. I also wonder whether, in case other Select Committees are involved (again I thank Hon. Ambrose CHEUNG for his reply just now) or we have to do so through the Administration Select Committee (a channel proposed by me), other committees can be allowed to consider the situation of being obsolete. I do not know if the Chairman of the Provisional Urban Council agrees to streamlining of the Municipal Services Ordinance.

THE HON. AMBROSE Cheung Wing-sum (in Cantonese):—Mr. Chairman, with regard to the first question on whether there was ever a try out of hawker meters, the answer is yes. The Council implemented a pilot scheme between 1973 and 1976.

The second question concerns streamlining of our by-laws. I agree to do so and I will take this question back to the Market and Street Traders Select Committee for follow up. As for by-laws involving other Select Committees, we will liaise with the Administration Select Committee and coordinate for the streamlining of existing policies and ordinances.
