The following paper was laid - Report to the Provisional Urban Council (PUC) by the Secretary, PUC, for the month of May 1999.

III. QUESTIONS

(1) MR. CHAN KWOK-LEUNG asked (in Cantonese): 'Regarding the computer courses organized by the Council's Science Museum, I have the following questions:

(i) It is learned that the software applications provided for the course participants of 'Self Learning Computer Programme' (free of charge), 'Microsoft Office Made Easy' (pay course) and 'Introduction to Chinese Input Methods' (pay course) run by the Science Museum still remain at the stage of Windows 3.1, Word 6.0, PowerPoint 4.0, Excel 5.0 and Access 2.0. These applications are very outdated. When did the Science Museum start running these courses? When were the courses last updated? Would the Science Museum consider making regular updates to the courses? If not, what are the reasons?

(ii) It is learned that the 'Self Learning Computer Programme' runs once a week, with a quota of 12 participants for each course. Please advise the total number of participants of the course in the past year. In addition, what is the cost of running each course? Is there any instructor available to provide guidance for the learners?
