PROVISIONAL URBAN COUNCIL

(e) we will need to be alert on hawkers policy and keep it under constant review.

8. To be or not to be: the last or to last

The future of the Municipal Councils is very much hung in balance, pending LegCo voting. Will it be our last Annual Conventional Debate? Will the elected Councils continue to serve the people of Hong Kong?

For us, is this "adieu" or "à bientôt"? There is uncertainty in our minds. Reactions are mixed. Some express resentment and sorrow, lament their fate and cherish memories of the Council. Others feel that we must struggle and are working towards a people's council for Municipal Services with tremendous effort. Whatever our feelings and whatever the outcome, I am sure all of us will carry on our duties to the community-- for as long as we are Councillors and beyond. We will do our jobs religiously, whether we are "monks" or not!

Thank you.
