aat RCPs. The newly designed RCPs also provide space for the recyclables. After all, we hope that the EPD will implement an overall programme as soon as possible so that we could design our part to tie in with them.
Mr. Stanley Ng Wing-fai (in Cantonese):—In the overall work on waste disposal in Hong Kong, the EPD has actually played a very important role. However, when it comes to the collection of recyclables, the work falls mainly on the shoulders of the two Municipal Councils. Therefore, I believe classification and collection of the recyclables can be stepped up at least in major PUC venues. As I have just mentioned, a lot of public housing estates will participate in these projects this year. I hope the situation can be improved extensively by then. So, Mr. CHAN, will the Select Committee instruct the Department to conduct a study on stepping up the work in collecting recyclables and submit the findings to the Council for discussion?
MR. JOSEPH CHAN YUEK-SUT (in Cantonese):—Mr. Chairman, the Working Group can follow up this issue.
(7) MR. WONG Kwok-HING asked (in Cantonese):—As members of the public are very concerned about the spread of enterovirus 71 (EV71), I would like to raise the following questions:
(i) Are the Council and the Department promptly aware of the details of the infection case and the spread pertinent to EV71? How much do they know? Have any measures been taken timely with regard to the facts known to them? What are these measures?
(ii) As the Council's recreational venues (e.g. swimming pools, indoor children's playrooms, activities rooms, beaches, etc.) may become an agent to transmit the virus, what precautionary measures has the Department taken? Which of these measures have been enhanced? Have inspections been stepped up? If yes, to what extent? Will timely reviews be made regarding the effectiveness of these measures?
(iii) For privately run or managed venues within the Council Areas (e.g. swimming pools, indoor children's playrooms, etc.), what precautionary measures have been taken? Have inspections been stepped up? If yes, to what extent? Will timely reviews be made regarding the effectiveness of the measures?
(iv) What have been done by the Council and the Department on education and publicity? Is the work effective? Will timely reviews and improvements be made in this regard?'
MR. JOSEPH CHAN YUEK-SUT, CHAIRMAN OF THE PH S/C, replied (in Cantonese):—Mr. Chairman, this question, which asks about measures taken by the Department to prevent the spread of EV71, is divided into 4 parts.
