CONFIRMATION OF THE MINUTES OF MEETING HELD ON 9 DECEMBER 1997

The minutes of the meeting held on 9 December 1997 were confirmed.

II PAPERS LAID

The following paper was laid:

Report to the Provisional Urban Council by the Secretary, Provisional Urban Council, for the month of December 1997.

III MOTIONS

(1) THE CHAIRMAN, URBAN COUNCIL moved the following motion:-

'THAT the Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure for 1998/99 and the list of works which the Council proposes to undertake during the next financial year be approved for transmission to the Governor in accordance with. Section 39 of the Urban Council Ordinance.'

He said (in Cantonese):-"That the Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure for 1998/99 and the list of works which the Council proposes to undertake during the next financial year be approved for transmission to the Chief Executive in accordance with Section 39 of the Provisional Urban Council Ordinance.'

I move the adoption of to-day's motion on the Provisional Urban Council's budget (officially known as the 'Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure 1998/99'), together with the list of capital works for the 1998/99 financial year commencing on 1 April 1998.

The budget before Members is the sum total of all budget papers which have been agreed by the Council's respective relevant functional Select Committees and approved by Members of the Standing Committee of the Whole Council on 6 January 1998.
