passenger piers. If we decorate these places with works of art, visitors will feel that apart from our financial success in producing wealthy people, our works of art also demand world respect.

So, I think this is not the time to debate on the feasibility of this motion. We should seek ways to implement the motion. In other words, we should ask the Department to steadfastly devise plans for the maintenance, safekeeping, transportation and in particular insurance aspects of works of art placed in venues managed by the Urban Council or in public places. We want to be able to appreciate and take our works of art to the public, but we also have to attend to the safekeeping and continuity of our collections. Thank you, Mr. Chairman, and with these remarks, I support the motion.

CHAIRMAN (in Cantonese): Members have spoken. Would Mr. LAM Man-fai like to exercise his right of reply?

Mr. Lam Man-FAI (in Cantonese): Thank you, Mr. Chairman. Thank you, fellow Members, for supporting my motion. You mentioned that the provision of more venues for the display of cultural objects and works of art would definitely help promote local art and culture. However, on the question of whether we should reduce or stop acquiring more items of collection, I hold a different view. As long as we can display our collections for the public to appreciate, I think our current collection policy should be maintained. If there is a need for a new policy, then I think we have to put in replenishment of display items to ensure that new items are put on display on rotation. Concerning the suggestion for works of art to be displayed at other public places, I find it reasonable and I support it. However, I think it is necessary to ensure better co-ordination among various departments on security and other aspects.

Finally, I would like to correct a figure I just mentioned. The collection of our Museum of Art should worth $745 million. I hope my motion today will be carried. Thank you.

The question was put.

The motion was carried unanimously.
