HONG KONG URBAN COUNCIL
The motion was carried unanimously.
(2) THE CHAIRMAN, URBAN COUNCIL, moved the following motion:—
*RESOLVED that the Urban Council Annual Report 1994-1995 be approved.*
He said (in Cantonese):—I rise to move the motion standing in my name.
It is a pleasure to introduce the Tabling of the Council's Annual Report 1994/95. But this year it gives us mixed feelings of happiness and sadness. Happy because the present Council now comprises all directly elected Members whose public credibility is beyond doubt. Sad because the system of appointed Members, under which the past Members have served this Council well with their wisdom and acumen, has come to an end.
But evolution and progress are the bywords of the Council. The accomplishment by the Council and the Department, in upgrading the quality of life for our three million-odd urban residents in the last financial year, is vividly portrayed in this Report.
I recommend this book to everybody who is interested in the achievement and development of Hong Kong as a civic entity. I also congratulate those associated with this production.
I so move.
Mr. Suen Kai-Cheong, CHAIRMAN OF THE ADMINISTRATION SELECT COMMITTEE (in Cantonese):—Mr. Chairman, Members.
This Annual Report is, shall I say, the flagship publication of the Urban Council. Not only is it a public record of the Council's work and progress during the previous financial year, it is also a highly attractive publication both pleasing to the eye because of its style of presentation with so many coloured photographs, but also pleasing to the pocket since it costs only $20.
It was produced by the Public Information Unit of the Council, which comes under the Administration Select Committee, and I congratulate those staff concerned for the high standard of professionalism it displays.
Mr. Chairman, I hereby second the motion.
The question was put.
The motion was carried unanimously.
Chairman (in Cantonese):—There are still 5 motion debates, but it is now 4.15 pm, so will you please speak briefly. In case of lengthy speeches, since the Council will keep a full record, the Members should raise the key points only. Mr. Daniel To is going to speak on the first motion debate.
