conjunction with Hong Kong Telecom. The test results have been promising so far and the service is in the final stages of testing and fine tuning. Once the test is completed and the results proved satisfactory, this service will be publicised and made available for use by the general public.
Ms. Jennifer Chow Kit-bing (in Cantonese):—Mr. Chairman, may I ask some follow-up questions. With regard to point 1 of the reply, I would like to know where does the pilot test take place? Do we have a time schedule as to when we can have automated self service ticketing for our programmes and can we extend our URBTIX network to other locations before introducing the automated self ticketing terminals? Lastly, a number of tests were also mentioned, do we also have a specific schedule for those tests?
Mr. Suen Kai-Cheong (in Cantonese):~Ms. Chow asks about the pilot test. In fact, the Department is having discussions with the software contractor. It is a matter of programming and not a test on concrete objects. As regards whether we can extend the URBTIX network at this stage, the Administration Select Committee is actively following up the issue and it has asked the Department to provide suitable locations for extending the URBTIX network. As regards other computerisation programmes of U.C. services, the Information Technology Sub-committee is already actively pursuing the issue. I understand that in the coming 2 to 3 months, the Department will submit a paper for the consideration of the Sub-committee. If the results are satisfactory, we will submit the paper to the SCWC for decision.
MR. DANIEL TO Boon-man (in Cantonese):—I have two follow-up questions. If the URBTIX network is extended, can the Administration Select Committee ask the Department to make use of tone phones or digital services? Besides, since the hotline service is manually operated and cannot be extended to 24 hours, can it be extended to cover the period between 10 am and 10 pm? I hope the Administration Select Committee would consider this.
Mr. Suen Kai-Cheong (in Cantonese):—Yes, I am willing to consider Mr. To's suggestion.
MR. CHAN CHOI-HI (in Cantonese):-Will the Council also consider inputting all our information into the Internet for information of the public?
MR. SUEN KAI-CHEONG replied (in Cantonese):-As regards computerization, the Information Technology Sub-committee is already considering all possible options and I am sure Members have noted this development.
Mr. Ambrose Cheung Wing-sum (in Cantonese):—Mr. Chairman, as regards point (c) of the reply, I understand that patrons have to register with URBTIX before they can pay by credit card. Will the Department consider extending the
