HONG KONG URBAN COUNCIL

Mr. Chairman, I hope that this will be a successful campaign and I hope that one day we will be able to pride ourselves on real jungles within the concrete jungle. With these remarks, I support the motion.

MR. PAUL YOUNG TZE-KONG (in English): Mr. Chairman, I also support Mr. MAN's motion. But I would like to add that since it is really an environmental issue and also that Urban Council has spent many years on the 'Keep Hong Kong Clean Campaign', which is also of environmental importance. I do feel that we have achieved, to a large extent, our objective in keeping Hong Kong clean and this new motion of greening Hong Kong, I think it can be our new slogan: 'Keep Hong Kong Green and Clean' at the same time. So I do feel that our existing committee on 'Keep Hong Kong Clean' can extend their scope to include keeping Hong Kong green as well. Thank you.

The question was put.

The motion was carried unanimously.

CHAIRMAN (in English): I am glad to hear supportive voices, but in any case, these will be put on record. For this motion, we have heard many useful and constructive comments and it is a very productive motion debate as proposed by the Hon. MAN Sai-Cheong and seconded by Mr. Jason YUEN. The opinions expressed will be summarized and followed up, and quite obviously, the experiences expressed were very much influenced by our study visit to Singapore. So our overseas visits are very valuable to our opinion and policy-making.

MR. PAUL YOUNG TZE-KONG (in English): Mr. Chairman, I would like to clarify that my earlier statement was not derogatory to Mr. Man's. I was supporting his motion.

ADJOURNMENT - 3:49 p.m.

CHAIRMAN (in English): This concludes the business of today's meeting, and I wish you all a pleasant summer holiday. Council stands adjourned until Tuesday, 8 September 1992, at 2:30 p.m.
