about whether there will be more staff added to keep the hawkers in order near Walton Estate after September. We are told that we have two special teams sent to the area around Walton Estate. I would like to know whether there are really two. As far as I understand it is not true that they are always there. The Eastern District Board members always have the feeling that we do not have enough GDT members there.
MR. STEPHEN M. L. LAU (in Cantonese):—Mr. Chairman, for the two teams sent to Walton Estate, they will stay there until tomorrow. We will have a review. If the situations are not worsened, we may send these two teams to other areas. I said that after September we will strengthen our force. It is not necessarily true that more people will mean greater efficiency. Because we only had about 5 to 6 foremen in the past, in future there will be 12 foremen for each team, so they will have more power in arresting these people. It will be easier for the policemen to do the prosecution work and more people will be staying behind to make arrests. So in fact this will be strengthening the force of the GDT. Of course we will only be able to see the result after September when the restructuring exercise is implemented, and only then we will be able to see whether the result is desirable. But according to my projection, certainly the GDT by then will be able to cope with the situation.
