To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the City Hall, some members suggested that the Council should seriously consider the possibility of redeveloping our City Hall to give a strong and up-dated identity as a major civic building of character and quality.
Other members have covered other items from public health, environmental protection, museums of coastal defense, pre-school play centers, new parks in the reclamation to provide buffers container terminals in west Kowloon, safety standards in parks, information technology, a research liaison officer and final court of appeal. I am afraid that I will keep you here all day if I try to deal with all these, particularly when one member suggested that this meeting is itself redundant and should be abolished; Council will no doubt be looking into the ways and means whereby the format and agenda may be improved.
In conclusion, I thank you for all your useful comments and constructive suggestions which will be favourably considered by the various authorities concerned. Lastly, may I take this opportunity to express my deep appreciation to all of our councillors and all our departmental staff for supporting me in carrying out all our responsibilities in such a smooth and harmonious manner, the success of which depends so much on our spirit of team work and fellowship.
