HONG KONG URBAN COUNCIL
the preliminary response we have had from the private sector here in Hong Kong, and in particular by the interest shown in particular by the business understand how vital is their support of the Orchestra in the light of present community, we have to ask all corporations and individuals once again to government policy.
At the same time, the Council and the Government must recognize that the Society cannot suddenly generate millions of dollars of new income from the private sector in order to make up for reduced levels of subsidy and further development. New funding on this scale will certainly take time. The Philharmonic's General Committee hopes, therefore, that government agencies will bear this in mind when considering the subsidies to the Philharmonic over the next two seasons. If sufficient funding cannot be secured, the tremendous advances and improvement in standards of recent years will be lost: if that happens, it will take many more years and even greater expense for the Orchestra to make up the lost grant.
With these few words, Dr. Kwok supports the Statement of Aims and I beg your indulgence.
