Training for Recreation and Amenities Staff

The Training School provides specialist and technical training to recreation and amenities staff at all levels. The subject areas cover horticulture, recreation, swimming and life-saving. During the year 1983-84 attendance figures are as follows:

Training for Cultural Services Staff

The Training School deals with the professional training of cultural services staff, including Curators, Librarians, and Managers and skills training for Cultural Services Assistant grades. Besides organizing in-house induction courses for new recruits of Assistant Curators, Assistant Librarians and Assistant Managers, the school also conducts short specialist/technical courses on specific subjects such as stage production, computerized ticketing, and whenever possible, endeavours to obtain the services of visiting experts from overseas in areas such as arts administration. Because of the high specialization of knowledge required for these grades, most vocational/technical training provided locally is organized through local academic institutions such as the University of Hong Kong and the Library Association. Attendance statistics for 1983-84 are as follows:

The Training School is responsible for identifying management training needs of different departmental grades of staff, organizing management courses at different levels to meet their varied needs and making use of management expertise available overseas and locally to develop the potential officers for career advancement. At the moment, the School runs two basic management training programmes, one for middle supervisors and one for first-line supervisors, providing them with the basic management and supervisory skills essential for the day-to-day operation of their duties. In addition, the School organizes short courses, seminars and workshops on special subjects for selected groups of staff. It is also responsible for training up departmental officers to be instructors in the Training School. In this respect, the School organizes Training Officers' Basic Courses to provide instructors with the basic training skills, methodologies and technology, and alternatively makes use of central programmes organized by the Hong Kong Technical Teachers College and the Civil Service Training Centre. Attendance statistics in 1983-84 are as follows:
