However, this problem will be overcome by these amendment By-laws, which, if adopted, will require the applicants to comply with any fire safety requirements imposed by the Director of Fire Services, in addition to those health requirements imposed by the Council as a pre-requisite for the issue of food business licences. These by-laws, if approved, will come into operation on 1 August 1982.
It is relevant to mention here that in connection with the present amendment, an amendment to Section 56(2) of the Public Health and Urban Services Ordinance, Chapter 132, was approved by the Legislative Council on 5 May 1982 to empower the Urban Council to make by-laws for imposing requirements as to the precautions to be taken against fire in such premises.
