(iii) To enlarge and develop the existing collections.
(iv) To continue the programme of special exhibitions and displays.
(v) To continue the existing educational and extension services.
(c) Museum of History
(i) To maintain a programme of exhibitions and displays.
(ii) To enlarge and develop the existing collections.
(iii) To develop a Natural History section.
(iv) To develop the educational services and extension activities.
11. Recreation and Amenities
Public Open Space
(a) (i) To develop adequately district open space.
(ii) To ensure that in all development and redevelopment schemes local and district open space is provided in accordance with approved planning standards and in a rational manner which recognizes and meets the varying active and passive recreational needs of the community.
(iii) To seek the early provision of local public open space to serve the residents of all of the older districts, if necessary by reclamation or urban renewal schemes.
(iv) To press for improvement of the approved planning standards for the provision of public open space.
(v) To press for the proper conservation and use of all land designated as green belt and also all areas of scenic or recreational value.
Parks, Recreation and Amenities
(b) (i) To manage and maintain to a high standard all parks, recreation and amenity facilities.
(ii) To push ahead vigorously with plans for new parks, recreation and amenities, in order to match the growing public need.

(iii) To maintain liaison with the many public and private organizations which have an interest in the Council's projects or which may be also to assist in meeting the demand for additional facilities.
(iv) To keep under continuous review the active recreation needs of all sections of the population, including the possible provision of new types of facilities and to ensure, as far as possible, that the use of existing facilities are evenly shared by all section of the population.
(v) To maintain a recreation programme co-operating with public and private organization as appropriate in order to provide for the better development of recreation and sport in all walks of life.
(vi) To recognize the need for passive as well as active recreation and to meet this need by providing sitting-out areas within and close to densely populated districts.
(vii) To expand the programme of providing covered games areas in recreation grounds.
Amenity Planting
(c)
(i) To continue the amenity tree, shrub and flower planting programme, with particular emphasis on the mass planting of colourful flowering species.
(ii) To continue to lay down increased stocks of semi-mature trees for planting out along roadsides, and round new public buildings; to utilize all available space for such planting, and to preserve mature trees wherever possible; and to collaborate with the Director of Public Works in the creation of tree-lined avenues and promenades.
(iii) To seek public co-operation in beautifying Hong Kong with trees, shrubs and flowers and, when planted, in their care and protection.
Stadia
(d)
(i) To maintain a high standard of management of all stadia.
(ii) To press forward with the development of more stadia in the urban areas.
Beaches
(e)
(i) To ensure the proper conservation and use of all gazetted beaches in the Urban Areas.
(ii) To push ahead vigorously with plans for new beach buildings in order to match the growing public need, and to maintain to a high standard the existing facilities.
(iii) To provide an adequate and suitable range of mechanized equipment for beach cleansing so as to enable all beaches to be kept clean and litter free.
(iv) To maintain and improve water safety so as to save lives by the proper provision of rescue equipment, by improving the training programmes for lifeguards, by exercising a vigilant and continuous watch on swimmers within the boom area through shore/sea patrols and from watch towers, and by increasing public awareness by publicizing water safety rules via the press, prominent notice boards on the beaches, and through promotional pursuits as part of Urban Council "Learn to Swim" courses.
