HONG KONG URBAN COUNCIL

(2) MR. A. de O. SALES, CHAIRMAN OF THE RECREATION AND AMENITIES SELECT COMMITTEE, moved the following Motion:-

"That the Public Swimming Pools (Amendment) By-laws, 1972, be made under Section 42 of the Public Health and Urban Services Ordinance, Cap. 132."

He said Mr. Chairman, I now propose the Motion on Public Swimming Pools (Amendment) By-laws 1972. Members of the public have complained about dirty water in public swimming pools, partly caused by swimmers using equipment made of plastic foam. There is also the danger that, when pieces of such equipment break off, they may block the filtration system. Our staff have also found pieces of broken glass in the sun-bathing areas by the side of the pools; they believe that such glass comes from broken goggles worn by swimmers. It is therefore proposed by the Recreation and Amenities Select Committee to prohibit the use of such objects in Council pools. The amendment now before Council is to achieve this purpose.

MR. HENRY H. L. HU:- I beg to second the Motion.

CHAIRMAN:- The Motion has been moved and seconded. Does anyone wish to speak? If not I will take a vote on the Motion.

The question was put.

The Motion was carried unanimously.
