HONG KONG URBAN COUNCIL
way as we are doing, we would have no business being members of the Urban Council.
Sir, may I say in conclusion what I said at the start of this Debate. We appreciate very greatly the tremendous amount of co-operation that the staff of the Government departments with which we work have given us, particularly those who are members of the various Select Committees and who are directly involved in our plans and programmes. We have also liked very much indeed the way you have chaired our meetings, giving us not as much leeway as we would like but nevertheless appreciating the need for us at times to contravene Standing Orders in the public interest. With these remarks and commending all the points that the unofficial Members have made to the attention of the Departments concerned, I would like to suggest that all the criticism was made, not with the sentiments of the old citizens of Edinburgh, in the Royal Mile, when in a unique way of disposing of nightsoil, they shouted "Gardy Loo". (Applause).
CHAIRMAN:-The motion for the endorsement of the Statement of Aims for 1971 was moved and seconded at the meeting held on 3rd November. I shall now take a vote on the motion.
The question was put.
The motion was carried.
CHAIRMAN:-Before we conclude I am sure that Members will wish me to extend our best wishes to the Hong Kong Team at the Asian Games in Bangkok, and to Mr. SALES who will be going to Bangkok as Chief of Mission of the Hong Kong Team and President of the Olympic Committee of Hong Kong. We wish them every success. (Applause).
Also Ladies and Gentlemen, as this is the last open meeting of the Council before the end of the year, I would like to wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year.
ADJOURNMENT
4.51 P.M.
CHAIRMAN:-That concludes the business of this meeting. The Council stands adjourned until Tuesday, 5th January, 1971, at 4.00 p.m.
