HONG KONG URBAN COUNCIL
exact date from which this amendment will take effect is left to the Director of Urban Services to decide, as this will not be known until trials have been completed.
Sir, I beg to move.
DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF MEDICAL & HEALTH SERVICES:-I beg to second, Mr. Chairman.
MR. SALES:-Mr. Chairman, I rise to move an amendment. There is no reason why the term "abattoir" should be used in an English speaking Urban Council. There is also no reason why the good old English term "slaughterhouse" should not be substituted for the word "abattoir". In the circumstances, Mr. Chairman, I move an amendment: the deletion of the word "Abattoir" and in substitution thereof the term "Slaughterhouse". (Laughter).
DR. HUANG:-Mr. Chairman, I beg to second.
MR. BERNACCHI:-Mr. Chairman, I did not intend to speak, but I fully agree with you, Sir, that it needs an amendment to the Abattoirs By-laws before the amendment could become effective, and therefore I personally would support the original Motion.
MR. SALES:-Mr. Chairman, I knew that this Council can always depend on our lawyer friends to render confusion worse confounded. (Laughter). Now, I, and with the permission of Dr. HUANG, would like to withdraw our amendment. It was in any case put forward in banter.
The question was put.
The Motion was carried unanimously.
ADDRESS BY CHAIRMAN.
CHAIRMAN:-Before closing, I would like to remind Members that the Secretary and myself will be proceeding on six weeks' leave from mid-July, and, during our absence Mr. WILSON will be appointed as Chairman of the Council as well as Director of Urban Services and Mr. Hector Ross will take over as Secretary.
ADJOURNMENT - 4.55 P.M.
CHAIRMAN:-That concludes the business of this meeting. Council stands adjourned until the 5th August, 1969 at 4 p.m.

MR. BERNACCHI:-Mr. Chairman, I did not intend to speak, but I fully agree with you, Sir, that it needs an amendment to the Abattoirs By-laws before the amendment could become effective, and therefore I personally would support the original Motion.
