that we might advise the Government Printer in order that there shall be no waste of public funds in printing an excessive number of copies that are not used up properly.
MR. BERNACCHI:-Taking Mr. Peter C. K. CHAN's point of the schools that he has had enquiries from, would not the cost of printing be less if there was more demand and how do we obtain more demand except by ourselves finding out whether the schools would like copies?
CHAIRMAN:-I agree with you, Mr. BERNACCHI.
MR. CHEONG-LEEN:-Mr. Chairman, to keep matters simple (Laughter), could the excerpts of this discussion be referred to the Local Administration Select Committee, which is also responsible for the public relations side of the Council, and information be provided to that Committee as to how many extra copies are available so that that Committee could consider how best use could be made of the additional copies.
CHAIRMAN:
Certainly.
MR. HU: Mr. Chairman, I would ask one supplementary. You may rule me out of order. (Laughter). I understand this Official Record is only in the English language; there is no such thing in Chinese language?
CHAIRMAN:-That is correct.
MR. HU: And the next question I would ask is, are you intending to have those records printed in Chinese?
CHAIRMAN: Not at all, Mr. Hu. This was discussed previously in Council and was discounted. The latest thing was that we were going to try running commentaries and that also was abandoned.
MR. HU: So your view, Mr. Chairman, is that nothing should be done to translate our record into Chinese?
CHAIRMAN:-That is correct, Mr. Hu.
MR. HU:-Mr. Chairman, you have given a very clear and simple answer. I must say I deplore it very much for it is in the public interest, that we should do our duty and translate our interesting things into Chinese so that the general public can take more interest in the affairs of the Council.
CHAIRMAN:-You will appreciate, Mr. Hu, that the decision was the Council's, not mine.
MR. HU:-Yes; well, I deplore the full Council's decision. (Laughter).
