CHAIRMAN:- Ladies and gentlemen, before I adjourn the meeting, there is one further matter. As members will be aware, this is the last meeting which the Secretary, Mr. Jack TINSON, will attend before proceeding on vacation leave. I should like, on this occasion, to pay a tribute to the assistance which I have received from him. No doubt other members have their own tale to tell. As far as I am concerned, he has been an outstanding secretary. (Applause). Alert, energetic, discreet and highly competent. He takes with him my thanks and best wishes for the future. (Applause). His post is being filled by Mr. John HEYWOOD, whom I welcome and in whom I have great confidence. (Applause).
MR. BERNACCHI:- Mr. Chairman, on behalf of all the Unofficials, I would simply like to associate myself with your remarks. Mr. TINSON has always been very, very co-operative with the Unofficials. We wish him a very pleasant leave and a speedy return, either to us or at least to Hong Kong, where his work has always been of the highest possible quality. (Applause).
ADJOURNMENT · 5.35 P.M.
CHAIRMAN:- That concludes the business of this meeting. Council stands adjourned until 6th February, 1968 at 4 p.m.
He said: Mr. Chairman, as Chairman of the Cemeteries, Crematoria and Funeral Parlours Select Committee, I rise to move the motion standing in my name.
The purpose of the motion is to empower the Director of Urban Services to carry out a routine exhumation programme for 1968 in order to provide space for future burials in the cemeteries concerned. If the motion is passed, notice of the intended exhumation will be published in the usual way in the Government Gazette and in the Chinese press, so that any person who wishes to arrange for private exhumation, may do so.
MR. LOBO: Mr. Chairman, Mr. RAFEEK has explained in a few words the purpose of this motion and it does not require further elaboration, and therefore I second it.
The question was put.
The motion was carried unanimously.
