negotiating the terms of payment with the local agents. The terms offered were not acceptable to Government and it was ultimately decided to place the order through the Crown Agents in London. This has now been done. No delivery date has yet been officially indicated, but it is understood that the manufacturers are able to make dock-side delivery in the United States within three to four months of the placing of an order. It is therefore hoped that delivery in Hong Kong will be effected before the end of this year.
MR. HU-Mr. Chairman, is the Wayne 980 made in the United States, not in the United Kingdom?
CHAIRMAN:-It is indeed, Sir. I think that you can safely assume that some of the mechanical products of the United States are of a high order of efficiency and this is believed to be one of them. If it is of any interest to you, Sir, another sweeper has also been ordered-this one from the United Kingdom.
(3) DR. R. H. S. LEE asked the following question:
Is the Chairman aware of roast sucking pigs and fresh sucking pigs being transported in old and filthy jeep vehicles in the urban area? How many such insanitary cases are detected and prosecuted each year?
THE ACTING DEPUTY DIRECTOR of MEDICAL AND HEALTH SERVICES replied as follows:
I am not aware that roast and fresh sucking pigs are being transported in old and filthy jeep vehicles in the urban areas. Due to a shortage of departmental meat vans, permission has been given for a few private vans approved as hygienically suitable to undertake the delivery of fresh sucking pig carcases from Ma Tau Kok Slaughter House to fresh provision shops or food factories dealing with the roasting of pigs.
DR. LEE: In view of the fact that the Acting Deputy Director of Medical and Health Services is not aware of the fact of this illegal transportation of roast sucking pigs and fresh sucking pigs, will he take note and ask his inspectors to pay more attention to this matter?
ACTING DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF MEDICAL AND HEALTH SERVICES: Mr. Chairman, I will investigate the matter.

(4) DR. R. H. S. LEE asked the following question:
Can the Chairman inform this Council when the empty piece of land situated between Castle Peak Road and Kam Chuen Street just below Lai Chi Kok Hospital will be allocated for development as an amenities plot? In view of the dearth of playing area in this neighbourhood, will he take steps to refer this matter to the Urban Amenities Select Committee for early implementation?
THE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS replied as follows:
No decision has yet been taken about the future use of the piece of vacant and partly filled land beside Lai Chi Kok Female Prison. I appreciate your desire for more public open space in this part of Kowloon and after the road proposals are finalized the need for an open space will be borne in mind when the outline zoning plan for this area is prepared.
DR. LEE: Is it possible to ask the Director of Public Works to let us know the approximate amenities area for this district?
DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS:-I am afraid I can't, Sir, because the plan is still under preparation. I should add that we hope to have a very large amenity area in the Lai Chi Kok Bay area which is also included on the same plan.
DR. LEE: How long will that take to materialize?
DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS:-I saw the plan this morning and it is almost finished as a plan, but there is one very large private housing scheme which affects many details of the new road across Lai Chi Kok Bay. It could certainly be finished, I think, before the end of this year, but it is in cold storage at the moment pending a decision on this very large private development which affects the roads, flyovers and roundabouts.
(5) DR. A. M. S. BELL asked the following question:
(a) Why has block X, ground floor, described as the most inaccessible block in the whole of the Kwun Tong Resettlement area, been given to the Social Welfare Department?
(b) Is it correct that the Social Welfare Department proposed to use part of this ground floor area for accommodation for wheel-chair patients?
