STATEMENT OF AIMS FOR 1966
Hygiene Division
(a) To continue recruitment of Student Health Inspectors in batches of twenty,
(b) To conduct a course in Tropical Hygiene for Health Inspectors who have completed 3 years service.
Environmental Hygiene
2.
(a) In the control of mosquito breeding to concentrate on building sites, partially completed buildings and private property.
(b) In the control of flies to concentrate on undeveloped areas.
(c) To continue action on the removal of illegal shades from the vicinity of domestic buildings, work places, shops or offices.
(d) To continue house inspection throughout the year, paying particular attention to the problems of multi-storey buildings.
Air Conditioning
3. To continue periodical checking of the air-conditioning of scheduled premises.
Licensed Food Premises
4. To further raise the standard of hygiene in all food premises by the additional employment of more Food Hygiene Squads when more student health inspectors, who are now in their third year of training, become qualified.
Food Hygiene
5. To improve and expand the Food inspection and sampling service and to continue:-
(a) control over imported meat and other foods;
(b) enforcement of regulations and by-laws pertaining to the maintenance of quality and hygienic standards of milk and other foods;

(c) improving control over milk products and baby foods;
(d) planning for the early establishment of the Food Certification Branch for comprehensive health certification of foods for export; and
(e) to improve the efficiency of the Health Inspectorate and to maintain, and as far as possible improve, co-ordination with Medical & Health Department and Public Works Department.
Infectious Diseases
6. To continue assisting the Medical and Health Department in the control of infectious diseases.
Health Education
7.
(a) To continue to hold food hygiene training courses for licensed food premises and other personnel engaged in catering business.
(b) To hold other training courses for the public, such as cleanliness courses for caretakers in multi-storey buildings and public health courses for youth groups.
(c) To co-ordinate with the Education Department by giving talks in schools with a view to promoting health education among the younger generation.
(d) To organize public health contests and take part in public exhibitions.
(e) To conduct public health publicity campaigns and other forms of health education, and in particular, to liaise more closely with Kaifong Associations in this respect.
(f) To produce and make available to the public leaflets and other material on subjects of public health importance.
Cleansing Division
City Cleansing and Refuse Collection
8.
To consider ways of further mechanizing the cleansing services.
9. To continue the promotion of the Keep Your District Clean Campaigns.
10. To improve cleansing services during the late afternoon and evening in main thoroughfares.
