I think Members would like me to wish them a pleasant holiday, which they fully deserve, and to thank them for their services to the Council.

MR. ROWLANDS has resumed duty in the post of Assistant Director (Amenities and General).

I would like to welcome Mr. PASCOE as our new Deputy Secretary. (Applause).

STATEMENT OF AIMS FOR 1965

Hygiene Division

(a) To continue recruitment of Student Health Inspectors at the rate of 20 per annum.

(b) To conduct a course in Tropical Hygiene for Health Inspectors who have completed 3 years' service as Health Inspectors.

Environmental Hygiene

2. (a) In the control of mosquito breeding to concentrate on those in building sites and in private property.

(b) To continue the removal of illegal shades from the vicinity of domestic buildings and work places.

(c) To continue house inspection throughout the year, despite any possible interference from cholera.

Air-conditioning

3. To carry out periodical checking of the air-conditioning of licensed premises and theatres.

Licensed Premises

4. To raise the standard of hygiene in all food premises.

Food Hygiene

5.

To improve and expand the food inspection and sampling service and to continue:

(a) preparation for establishing the projected Food Certification Branch for comprehensive health certification of foodstuffs for export;

(b) control over imported meat and other foods;

(c) enforcement of regulations and by-laws pertaining to the maintenance of purity standards of local foods;

(d) to strengthen control measures to ensure a supply of safe and wholesome milk; and

(e) to investigate the possibility of control over baby foods.
