before the Government fixed these charges. cannot accept the implication that they are excessive since the Select Committee regarded them as reasonable. The Committee was guided by a report which had been made by an inter-departmental working party on parking problems generally, and which had been accepted in principle by the Government. I am informed that the charges made at the multi-storey car park compare favourably with charges made for public parking in the central areas of other congested cities.

(b) I am not able to deal with this question except to make it clear that this Council is not concerned. The control of street parking is not amongst the Council's responsibilities."

He said: The second question is not one which I can deal with in this Council, and the brief reply indicates that.

I am however now in a position to add that the Commissioner of Police has been good enough to supply me with a note on this point and copies of the note have been sent to Mr. Bernacchi and also to the Council's Representative on the Traffic Advisory Committee.

ADJOURNMENT.

CHAIRMAN:-That concludes the Council's business for today. Council stands adjourned to Tuesday 4th February, 1958.
