Effort To Save Rufford Abbey

Another effort is being made by the Society for the Protection of Ancient Build- ings to save Rufford Abbey, great of England's houses. near Mansfield, Notts. It is scheduled for demolition within the next few months.

one

The owner, Mr Henry Talbot de Vera Clifton, decided to dis- mantle the buliding beenuse of the heavy cost of repairs. The War Offee, which used it during the war, "left it in a deplorable state."

Notts County Council has can- colled a preservatión order made about a year ago and issued not.ce of demollilon. The coun- til excluded the Abbey's 12th century crypt.

Experts from the society are to visit the Abbey to see the ex- tent of deterioration since their last report in October.
