The vital dependence of Western Europe on Middle Eastern oil supplies in peace and war was stressed in London recently by Major- General W. E. F. Abraham, CBE. The 52-year-old General, an Irishman from Enniskillen and a geologist by profession, had the almost unique ex- perience of rising from Second Lieutenant to Major-General in World War Two.
