Third Round Cup Replays
THE HONGKONG TELEGRAPH, THURSDAY, JANUARY 12, 1950.
NORTHAMPTON, CARDIFF CITY & WATFORD WIN AWAY MATCHES
London, Jan. 11-Seven Third Round Cup replays produced thrills for nearly 300,000 soccer fans this afternoon when the anticipated (in some quarters) seven home wins failed to materialise.
In fact, there were sufficlent surprises to produce only two home wing while four away sides were successful within the stipulated 90 minutes.
At the end of that period Middlesbrough and Aston Villa were still on even terms and нo played extra time.
The big upsets of the programme were the away victories of Northampton, Cardiff und Watford. When half-time arrived in alt seven games, only three goals had been scored, Charlton, who always seem to fight better when the dice is landed against them, leading Fulham, while Liverpool and Blackburn each scored once. None of the five other game had them preatness goal
