The Trades Union Congress will ask its 8,000,000 members to accept a "rigorous restraint" in wage demands "for a period which will enable this country to make an economic recovery," Mr Arthur Deakin, the General Secre- tary of the powerful Transport and General Workers' Union, forecast tonight.
