Cleveland, (Ohio), Oct. 31.—The United States Secretary of State, Mr Dean Acheson, said today that President Truman's "Point Four" programme of aid for under-developed countries offered those countries a sound alternative to the "spurious pro- mises" of Communism.
Addressing a meeting of the Congress of In- dustrial Organisations (CIO), he said that America could help the peoples of Asia, Africa and Latin America to take "a short cut to progress" which would enable them to by-pass centuries of laborious effort.
