FRED PERRY FOUND NO COMING STARS IN BRITISH TENNIS

By VERNON MORGAN.

London, Oct. 3. A reason often given for the elevated place the Americans hold in the world of tennis is the sunshine: This is support- ed by the evidence that the Californians dominate American tennis, for California has perhaps better climatic conditions than any other state in the United States, or any country in the world.

The Californian climate helps lawn-tennis players in two respects. First, the sunshine gives them health and fitness, Second, the long spells of fine weather enable the players to put in longer hours of practice than is possible elsewhere.

If there is any truth, that sunshine can improve the ability of players, then thero should be some improvement in the standard of the game in Britain, which, has had five full months of beautiful weather,

Any betterment, however slight, would be most welcome for the past season, despite the fine weather, has been one of the gloomiest in British tennis since the
