IN

its second post-war London, Aug. 22.-Middlesex, driving for triumph in the English County Cricket Championship, today piled up a first innings lead of 100 runs in the needle match against Surrey at Lord's here-

Knowing that the team cannot afford to lose any points at this stage, the Middlesex batsmen showed a fine consistency. None of them reached 50 but they scored 359 runs, the only two batsmen failing to reach double figures being the two "cracks"--Denis. Compton and Bill Edrich.

By the close of play Surrey had knocked off the Middlesex first innings load and was G8 runs ahead with another day's play tomorrow.

BEN HOGAN'S "POWER GOLF"

1.-How the Hogan Grip Was. Evolved

Many goll fans are surprised to learn that I played golf left-handed when I first took up the game. Right away many left-handed golfers interpreted the fact that I now play right-handed to mean that I was of the opinion that all left-handed players should play the game from the right side, that golf is a one-sided game. But that isn't so at all.. ́ ́.

There is absolutely no reason why anybody should change over from playing golf left-handed and start learning the game all over again from the right side. Particularly now that left-handed clubs are made just as well as right-handed clubs and are as comparatively easy to get as right-handed clubs.
