when South's king dropped. West continued with the queen of hearts, which declarer trump-
ed with the six of spades.
Mr Rosenberg realised that if he were to pick up the trumps, he would be in trouble, so he led the five of diamonds, and
when West jumped up with the ace, the king was played from dummy,
West continued with the jack of hearts, which South trumped with the seven of spades. Now he led the nine of spades, won it in dummy with the jack, cash- ed the ace of clubs, then led the three of diamonds, playing the ten-spot from his own hand. The juck of diamonds was cash- ed and y club discarded from dummy.
Now come the smother play. The queen of diamonds was led by declarer. If West ruffed "with the four of spades, declarer would over-ruff in duminy with the king, lead back the eight of "spades, pick up the other trumps and eash the rest of the dia- monds. All South had to do was to keep leading diamonds until West was forced to trump, Thus West was literally smothered out of his ten of spades.
