Nimbus Looms Up As
A Derby Prospect
London, May 1-The surprise about the result
of the Two Thousand Guinens, which ended in a short head defeat for the hot favourite, Abernant, by the 10 to 1 chance Nimbus, was not so much that the favourite lost but that I was Nimbus that won.
This colt, by Nearco, had been beaten "out of sight" by Abernant in the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster last year over six furlonge, and although Nimbus had won over a mile this season, which saw him a sound each-way chance, it did not seem possible that he should reverse the previous six- lengths defeat, even with an extra two furlongs to
go.

TOO MANY 'IMPORTS' ENGLISH CRICKET?
BY PETER DITTON

two
English cricket is sharply divided in itself. There are points of view. One maintains that the introduction of players into
a county team by means of a special registration is perfectly justi- fied. The other will have nothing to do with it.
scheme Intro-
The special registration of players was an emergency duced by the MCC after the war. It was done primarily to enable smaller county elevens to build up their playing strength in a hurry to meet the rigorous demands of first class cricket, and at the same time to give young players, without a chance of getting into their own county team, the oppor tunity to stay in the game by playing for another county.
