New York, Apr. 12.-The United States Ambassador to the Philippines, Mr Myron Cowen, said today that the United States had not, and would not, relax its determination to use its strength and influence to assure peace and progress in the Pacific.
Formerly Ambassador to Australia, Mr Cowen will take the oath as envoy to the Philippines tomorrow at noon.

London, Apr. 12. settlement of a libel action brought by Sir John Shaw, Governor and Commander- in-Chief of Trinidud, and formerly Chief Secretary in Palestine, arising out of passages in the book "The Rape of Palestine," WAS announced in the High Court today.
The defendants were the St Botolph Publishing Company, of London, the publishers of the book in Britain. Mr II. L. Parker, for Sir John, said that the American author, had been the notified of
proceedings, which arose out of the sages in the book dealing with the bombing of the King David 11otel, Jerusalem, on July 22, 1040.
