GAMES
The three remaining quarter-final matches (two Junior Mixed Doubles and one Ladies' Doubles) played at the Kowloon Cricket Club last night were full of thrills and cach match was featured by the splendid recovery of the winning pair after conceding the
first game.
Last night's games say a great deal for the keenness and fighting spirit shown by the Colony's younger players and nugur well for the future of badminton in Hongkong.
Each match was bitterly contested and the losers never gave up trying and made attempts to play. every shot right up to the very end.

A BLOW TO ESSEX CRICKET HOPES
By PETER DITTON
For years England has been looking for a really top class fast bowler. Since the days; of Alt Gover and the late Kenneth Farnes, there has been no-one in English cricket who could be so described, although crroncously. Alec Bedser
and Cliff Gladwin-fast medium bowlers--are often placed in this category.
The visit of the Australians last year, with their fast attack of Lindwall, M iller and Johnston, showed just what true pace-men can do. It is small wonder therefore that when at last England appeared to have found the man who might worthily fill the shoes of such famous players as Larwood, Vace, Gover and Farnes, he was carefully nursed along.
