BADMINTON CHAMPIONSHIPS
THE LADIES SHOW MORE INTEREST
By "RECORDER"
The Badminton Association is confronted this year with an entirely new situation in the Colony Open Championships, there being, unlike last year, a swarm of entries for the Ladies' Singles and Doubles Championships and the Junior Mixed Doubles.
On the other hand, it is still a debatable point at this stage, seeing that the minimum elght entries have "nol been received for either the Senior Men's Singles und Doubles titles, that these championships will be placed at stake.
Despite the fact that entries, on the whole, are considerably more numerous than last years, they are, in more ways Unn one, disappoint Ing.

Davis Cup COMPETITION
Interest Is In The Inter-Zone Final
London, Feb. 19,-Until the disparity between the standards of lawn tennis in the United States and that of other nations is narrowed, the Americans will be. In no danger of relinquishing their tight grip on the prized Davia Cup.
With no immediate sign of this gap closing, the 1949 competition can be expected to follow much the same pat- tern as in the other postwar years.

Battle of Words May
Yet Go Too Far
London, Feb. 13.-It would be a pity if the harmony
of the MCC tour of South Africa were to be spoilt by cricket writers, who are having a battle of words, with money as the root of all evil.
It all started when stories' were sent back to England about the "huge sums of money" the South African cricket authorities were making out of the MCC tour, whereas the English cricketers, the performers whom such vast crowds had come to see, were financially doing very poorly.
