Cogan made seven-odd because he reasoned that West would not open from the king-three of clubs the king-three-two. Therefore, the club finesse was bound to fall. But East night hold the singleton king, and on that chance Cogan went right up with dummy's ace

of clubs, dropping the klag.

A small club was returned and won with the queen. Copan then led a small diamond and finessed dummy's queen. A spade was led to the king and the jack of dia- inonds played.
