CHRISTMAS BRINGS THE INTERNATIONAL TOURNEY

A Merry Christmas to all who keep the local soccer world moving,

and to all followers of soccer in Hongkong!

Christmas brings the annual matches in the International Charity Cup Competi- tion. This year teams representing four nationalities take part — China, England, Por- tugal and Scotland.

For players who have been taking part in Christmas conviviality, these Christ- mas holiday games of ninety minutes duration with the possibility of extra time thrown in are severe tents indeed.

THE SOCCER PARSON

Awards A Free Kick Against Himself

By J. W. TAYLOR

The Reverend Robert Jack, Scottish soccer parson, referees Icelandic matches in which he plays centre- forward and often whistles for a free kick against him- self! Amateur footballer at the time, he took the game to Iceland upon being appointed as football coach there.

He liked Iceland and her people so much that he de- cided to stay there. So he became an Icelandic national and studied for the Lutheran Church of Iceland. He was the only foreigner to be ordained on the island for 670› years.

They sent him to Grimsey, a tiny island 40 miles from the mainland, where the Arclic and the Atlantic

meet.

A 75-ton mailboat Inks it with the outside work during the summer months. In the winter, Grimsey is completely cut off, ex- cept for radio telephone communien- tion.

There he introduced football. Ho still plays centre-forward for the island team which jacent islands
