Challengers For The World Chess Title
The FIDE (World Chess Federation) has recognised 14 challengers to the title of World Champion won earlier this year by the Soviet grandmaster, Mikhail Botvinnik.
The fourteen candidates, who are to play in n Candli-. dates' Tournament to be, held, probably, in Argentina next year; are the five who competed against Botvinnik for the title left vacant by the death of Dr Alexander Alekhine and the top nine of the 20-player Saltsjöbaden Tournament completed in September.

New Laws For International Contract Bridge
A new set of international laws for contract,bridge has been agreed upon by the Portland Club, the European Bridge League and the National Bridge Laws Commission of the United States.
The new set of rules will come into effect on November 1. It will be published for the Portland Club, by Thomas De La Rue and Co., Ltd. and is not likely to be ready until the end of this month owing to printing difficulties.
