A BATTLE ROYAL IN THE MIXED DOUBLES

By "RECORDER"

Feature of yesterday's programme in the Colony Tenis Championships at the Ladies' Re- creation Club was the battle in the first two sets put up by A. T. Dow and Mrs B. Jones against K. M. Getz and Mrs Stroobach.

Dow and Mrs Jones forced the pace from the start and had piled up a 5-2 lead in the first set before the opposi- tion settled down. Hard driving and good net play was countered with steady returns from. the base line and good courtcraft as Getz and Mrs Stroonch took games in a row for the sci.

However, the Dow Jones fire had yet to dim and the pace was kept up in the second set which they won after a hard battle at 6-4, more on sheer sting than on court- craft.
