Cabinet Meets

STATE COFFERS EMPTY

new

Paris, Sept. 12.—The French Cabinet announced yesterday by the veteran Ra- dical, M. Henri Queuille, held its first meeting today when the Governor of the Bank of France and leading Treasury officials attended for talka on ways and means of hurriedly raising cash for the almost empty State coffers.

No final decisions were taken. at the_raveling, which was devoted al- most exclusively to the urgent shart- į term financial problem.

Another meeting of the Cabinet wil be held on Tuesday.

AL. Qucuillo zaid on Friday that "'farling prompt action the State would not be able to pay its current obligations next month. He was referring to the fact that the Stute has spent most of its 1949 resourcen in the first eight months of the year and bao at present, according to re- poris in the financial press, only 30 or 40 millard froncs of cash in hand, while I expenditure is st the rate of nearly 100 milliards per month.

MORE TAXATION

It seems to be generally agreed that at least 200 miliards must be found between now and the end of

the year.

Supplementary taxation will no doubt be imposed to cover nearly

half this amount,

It is believed that the, Govern- ment will have récourse to higher indirect and direct taxes. The rest may be done by borrowing from the Bank of France.

Under her Marshail Aid treaty France undertook, to end in 1948 alt borrowing from the Bank of France. But it i

considered here that this meant additional-borrowing.........-nbove the existing legal Bmit, which is 200 milliard franes, and on which account there was sill

credit balance of 34 millard frunes, un September 2-Reuter.

FOR SIEGE

New Delhi, Sept. 12-India announced anew her determination to take whatever action she con- siders necessary in the Hyderabad crisis but a report that Indian troops have invaded the Princely State drew an official denial today.

Mr V. P. Menon, States Ministry Secretary, wrote what was termed a final letter on Saturday to Premier Mir Laik Ali, Premier of Hyderabad, which is holding out against union with India.

Mr Menon wrote the Hyderabad Premier that "in the prevailing circumstances the Government of India hold themselves free now to take whatever action they consider necessary" to disband private armies and end what the Indians call disorder within the State.

"The only law prevailing in Hy- derabad is the law of the jungle,' he said, "The Nizam's government has no desire to face the facts. They are unwilling and incapable of ending violence and anarchy.”

"Suek netion is bound to lead to very serious consequences and wili result in serious aggravation of the communal situation both inside and outside Hyderabad," he was quoted. --Associated Press.
