PWD Men In Court This Morning

SPARY ON BAIL

Austin Spary, 49, electrical inspector, PWD, accused of stealing electrical materials belonging to the Hongkong Government, was granted conditional bail of $2,500 cash when he appeared on remand before Mr Wicks at Kowloon this morning. The condition is that Spary is to vacate his quarters at the Hunghom Workshop.

Chief Inspector J. Johnston, of the Special Branch, told the Court that he would oppose bail for Spary unless he got an assurance from him that he would remove from his quarters. Most of the witnesses in the case were workmen and Spary was living on the floor' above the workshop.

Spary, he said, had been in chargo of the workmen for a long period and the Police felt that Spary, being in close contact with there workmen constantly and every day, was granted ball there was a very great danger of the witnesses being tompered
