Interesting Place
Salamanca itself is a remarkably Interesting old place, rich in magni-
neet old palaces, picturesque alleys and corners, curious old shops and two enthedrals, one old. the other new, the latter a comparative new- comer since it was erected in the
sixteenth century?
оне
For looks at Salamanca, strolls out through the principal gate on the south side of the city, the river gate, to the banks of the broad formes river. From the broad stone bridge that spans the river, one can toke in an interesting panorama. As for the bridge, it is an ancient struc- ture with twenty-seven spans, fifteen of which, nearest to the elty, are of Roman origin.
Barren Plain
Salamanca is set upon a barren plain, with the Sierras in the for-off distance.
Terraces of houses with
pottery roofs and bright, stuccoed walls pile up to the new cathedral, a sandstone buliding, which time haя painted a rich amber colour, beauti- ful against the deep blue sky.

THIRD QUARTER QUOTA
Washington, Aug. 4.-The Depart- ment of Commerce announced today the quota for Iron and steel pro- ducts for the third quarter of 1948, totalling 1,120,000 tons.
It said that by a reduction of undistributed reserven in this quar ter, a considerably larger amount of iron and steel products can be dis- tributed than previously.
It reported that a substantial part of the increase is assigned to Western European countries in order to meet larger requirements under the European recovery plan. Since the purpose of undistributed reserves Is to allow for situations
which cannot be foreseen because of in- adquate information when the quotas were established, future re- serves may be reduced as better in- formation is obtained.
