THIRD QUARTER QUOTA

Washington, Aug. 4.-The Depart- ment of Commerce announced today the quota for Iron and steel pro- ducts for the third quarter of 1948, totalling 1,120,000 tons.

It said that by a reduction of undistributed reserven in this quar ter, a considerably larger amount of iron and steel products can be dis- tributed than previously.

It reported that a substantial part of the increase is assigned to Western European countries in order to meet larger requirements under the European recovery plan. Since the purpose of undistributed reserves Is to allow for situations

which cannot be foreseen because of in- adquate information when the quotas were established, future re- serves may be reduced as better in- formation is obtained.
